Message Board Links

I posted a question to both the community board at www.ancestry.com and www.genealogy.com.

Here are the links:

So far I haven't received any follow-ups. I will continue to check over the next few weeks to see if anyone has any information!

Check out this document which has conflicting information. The son was born four years after the father's death. This is a gap in my research.

  1. Something interesting regarding this posting I put on the message boards...my husband went to the Porter reunion this past weekend while I was out of town. He was talking to a distant cousin who has done extensive research on the Porter side of the family. She said it will be nearly impossible to verify the accuracy of Lee's birth date. She knows this because she has the original family Bible that has been passed on to her which records his birth date as we all know it to be. Therefore, our research on this side of the family will probably have come to a stop unless some other very distant cousin or family member knows of a story that has been passed down through the family which explains the mix-up on dates.

  2. I love your topic! Coming from a very large family, it is hard to keep track of everyone and also interesting to look into our collective past. I have noticed that you have talked to relatives and also did some research on the ancestry.com and genealogy.com sites. I wanted to share an idea with you concerning using social networking to find links to your past. Recently, I was able to find a friend for my mother that she had not seen or spoken to in 50 years! I found her through Facebook. I tried all the regular type sites like Classmates.com but to no avail. I was able to find a relative of the lost friend who help us get reconnected. It was a nice surprise for my mom! This same method could be used to find a link to a family name last known to be in "blank" area. Facebook or MySpace can not only keep you up-to-date on the present, but also help to re-discover the past!
